A bed of grass and cinders beneath me

Patiently waiting for the soft breath of spring

Rain cutting through the billows of smoke
Sunlight etching ashen silhouettes
Shadowy glimmer of light shards and gray
Here I can dream of another day

Roaring rivers far below
carve names for the nameless
Their faces gleam around me
as their memories are sown deep into the roots of wounded trees
All has fallen silent, save my own heavy breath,
and what is left of my dream
beats incessantly against my lucidity

Sweet and strange scents permeate the air
A thousand dewdrops falling in the sand
The murmur of a thousand ghosts
Branches stir like nimble fingers
Leaves and blossoms born anew
Silken reeds in ember fields
find their way into my sleep
A soft caress of soothing wind
warm on my cheek

The naked grove opens its maw
for only a day
Unexpected beauty shines through
Yet I fear nothing new today
for I know that nature will restore it all

Roaring rivers far below

Wrought with fury, she arises from the ash and gleaming stone
All has fallen silent, ave my own heavy breath
She of radiant blood comes to claim what she is owed

And then with a calm sigh,
she fades back into the ether
